Flexibility is our key strength and ATC operations rooms are our natural habitat.
With such a strong operational ATC background, ATSIX consultants are a natural link into any project which requires ATM stakeholder engagement. Regardless of the task, ATSIX consultants bring a deep understanding of how controllers work and how to engage with the ATC community effectively.

Airspace changes in the United Kingdom are proposed, consulted upon and implemented in accordance with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) regulatory process which describes, in detail, the requirements, expectations and guidelines for airspace change sponsors. Whilst the guidance is very clear, it is also very complex to actually implement.
Airspace change sponsors must invest significantly in technical expertise (ATC, analytics, IFP procedure design) as well as expertise in the airspace change process itself, in order to create a high probability of success. Lack of investment in these key areas will reduce significantly the chances of success, leading to expensive repeated attempts to satisfy the process.
Successful airspace change projects invariably do the following three things extremely well:
- Utilise ATC experts within the core team to present compelling technical evidence in a way that each stakeholder group understands
- Understand and apply consultation process best-practice
- Build credible and respected teams who can engage effectively with the ATM community
In short, airspace change projects rely completely on having the right people with the right experience and skills
ATSIX can support your airspace change project by providing the following functions:
- Providing ATC technical support or leadership within your existing team structure
- Supporting your consultation process at each, or specific stages of the UK Airspace Change Process
- Providing communication strategy development and ongoing support
- Proposal documentation development and peer review prior to submission to regulator under the process
- Support for formal stakeholder meetings – regulator, ANSP, public consultation meetings, local groups, members or Parliament and the multitudes of airspace user groups and sectors
ATSIX is able to offer flexible and scaleable support packages for UK and overseas airspace change projects from single procedure replications to whole-country airspace redesign activities.

ATM projects require access to technical expertise in order to manage them effectively. Project managers will often not have recent operational ATC experience or a detailed understanding of ATM operational delivery. Having access to an ATM technical expert to work alongside the project management team brings significant benefits in stakeholder communication, technical reporting and smoother integration of project functions.
ATSIX provides ATM subject matter experts with experience of the most complex tower and airspace operations. Our consultants can be integrated individually within project teams full-time or on any required basis.
Efficiency, capacity and resilience are vital not only to those operations which are expanding and developing, but also to those operations which are recovering from the global downturn and need to resource and operate within new norms. ATSIX provides ATM experts to assess current and potential capacity within airports and airspace by applying an analytical approach to the key metrics which drive capacity enhancement and the release of latent capacity within an operation. In the simplest and most effective form, our ATM experts will provide recommendations and an action plan to enable short and medium-term capacity enhancement planning.
Airspace and Concept of Operations (CONOPs) design is a complex collaboration between people rather than a purely technical function. The focus on any airspace design or change must always be centred on how the airspace functions for the airspace users, the ATC service provider and the subsequent impact upon overall efficiency and safety. The best airspace design requires collaboration and engagement of the local ATC providers and airspace user communities. The key roles within airspace design projects are often those of ATM expert/coordinator alongside IFP procedure design expert and analytics/modelling experts. ATSIX can provide the appropriate experts to ensure that your core team for airspace and CONOPs design is one which guarantees a collaborative approach, utilising the best technical roles alongside local expertise.
Reports, bid documents, proposals, project scope definitions, ACP documents and concept of operations submissions – all vital documents which determine whether a project succeeds or fails. ATSIX can provide valuable independent peer review services and work collaboratively with project teams, consultants and ATM organisations.
Safety is at the core of all ATM and airport operations. Safety management is continually developing and new challenges appear alongside increased capacity. ATSIX can provide safety expertise to support operational and cultural reviews of safety management processes, safety culture across the whole ATM delivery spectrum and implementation planning roadmaps to ensure safety is managed proactively.
Wind turbines have been the main element of the UK Government’s drive to reduce emissions and to transform the energy supply towards renewables. Onshore and offshore turbines are getting bigger and more efficient but they also continue to present significant issues for primary surveillance radar systems. Mitigations are possible and are being implemented in order to reduce the level of objections from aviation stakeholders. ATSIX can provide ATM expertise to assist renewable developers, ANSPs and airports work together to overcome the radar and operational issues in a collaborative fashion.
